Health Care: The Big Picture

E-mail Print PDF

We all know the importance of providing quality health care for our families. However, we've grown increasingly worried about the cost and quality of the insurance that is supposed to protect our family's health.  CT Parent Power joined thousands of Connecticut residents to put in place new state and federal rules to make sure that we all have quality, affordable health care.  Now we need to help our leaders in Hartford continue to move forward.

What We've Won

joankidshc4e1We fought for and helped pass new state and federal laws to increase our health security.  These new laws work together to improve the quality of Connecticut’s health care and to slow the runaway cost increases hurting us all.  Connecticut’s 2009 SustiNet law and this year’s federal health care reform combine to give us the tools and resources to make it possible for every Connecticut family to have high-quality health care.

What's Ahead

National reform makes it easier for Connecticut to put its SustiNet plan into action. SustiNet fills in some of the problems that federal reform didn’t fix.  Together, they give us the opportunity to win peace of mind about our family's health care.  Here are our next steps:

All of us can have more health care choices...

SustiNet, Connecticut’s “public option,” will provide people with strong preventative care, effective chronic disease management, and access to the right health care services at the right time. Decisions Connecticut makes now will determine how many of us will have the opportunity to choose SustiNet, and how quickly SustiNet’s approaches will transform Connecticut’s health care marketplace.

More middle-class and low-income families can be covered...

Connecticut can take full-advantage of new federal funds that can help cover more adults and children at the same time saving money to us as taxpayers. Middle class and low-income families can get better relief from rising health care costs, and can get it sooner that we once thought. If we’re focused, and we act quickly, we will all gain.

We can get more for our money - sooner than we thought...

Eliminating waste and duplication in our health care system will make us healthier and save us all money.  Our leaders made a decision to fix this problem but didn’t know how to pay for it. Federal reform offers us the resources to start putting these “delivery system” improvements in place now. We’re working to make sure Connecticut doesn't miss this opportunity.

...when we work together.
